The final decade of the twentieth century provided an abundance of technological advances in computer science and hardware, mobile devices capable of new forms of communication, and an endless sea of information available at any time. These quality of life upgrades would catalyze a wave of new and experimental genres of music. Ambient, downtempo, jazzy breaks, deep house, melodic techno, progressive house led this boom of new creative music for the masses. Countries across the Atlantic Ocean including England, Netherlands, France, and Germany pioneered a definitive rhythmic and deeper melodic sound that trickled into metropolitan cities including New York, Chicago, Miami, and San Francisco.
This influx of new, enticing sounds imbued Matthew J, known as MJ, with a passion to discover forward-thinking artists such as Underworld, Chemical Brothers, William Orbit, Brian Transeau, DJ Shadow, and Massive Attach. From recurrent listens and habitual analysis with attention to detail, MJ soon sought out a first set of mixing equipment to manipulate music in new innovative ways.
In his 20+ years of mixing and performing, MJ has had the honor to perform opening sets for world class talent including Sasha, John Digweed, Nick Warren, Jody Wisternoff, Sandra Collins, Hernan Cattaneo and more.
